FILL IS FOR EVERYONE WHO’S INTERESTED IN A BETTER WAY TO CLEAN

We are Pam and Dan Lloyd. Along with our two children, rescue cats and our dog Jess – we moved to Silverdale from Lancaster in 2018, to be closer to family and to be by the sea. We absolutely love it.

Our hope is that by providing a zero-waste service we can help to reduce waste on a local level whilst also enabling people to shop locally for all of their household requirements. By providing refillable household cleaning and personal care products, we hope to complement the abundance of incredible, entrepreneurial enterprises that are already established in the village.

From local artists, crafters, family butchers, National Trust farms, cafes, pubs, hotels, takeaways, gift shops and antiques – we love the idea of a sustainable village, where everyone thrives whilst living responsibly within the environment.

When we lived in Lancaster we were fortunate to have a large community allotment plot that we took care of for many years. One of the saddest aspects of moving was that we had to give it up. However – someone new will no doubt be making the most of it and we have worked hard to build raised beds and continue our growing journey here in Silverdale (despite all the limestone!)

We compost absolutely everything (but that’s another website altogether…) and Silverdale has some incredible initiatives including a veg swapping and free food stall during the growing season.

Dan and I have worked with household and personal care manufacturers for many years and have always held a keen interest in those who formulate with the environment in mind. Unfortunately these incredible eco-responsible manufacturers are still in the minority but hopefully not for long.

Fill is an independent, family-run British manufacturer that we have worked with for many years. Dan recruited scientists for their green chemistry team who formulate, test and develop Fill products in their own factory. The first time Dan went to visit the labs, he came home with some free samples – this was before Fill, when it was just Ideal Manufacturing. Ever since then we’ve been hooked on their products, their ethics and their thoughtful manufacturing processes. Everything they do is with the environment in mind.

BACKGROUND

Dr Mike Kalli disrupted the traditional commercial laundry detergent industry as a young chemist in the late ‘70s. Taking it a step further, he made the brave decision to formulate and manufacture the products himself, going head-to-head with the ‘big soapers’ at the time. He wanted to ensure consistent supply, quality and total flexibility… and knew he could do it better. Ideal was founded in 1980.

WE'VE GOT CHEMISTRY

In 2008 Mike is joined by his son, Phillip. Together, they have chemistry, passion, a sense of fun and a drive for continuous improvement! Not interested in being the biggest, their aim is to be better all the time, to continue a great British manufacturing story for generations to come.

Ideal recently achieved ISO:14001 accreditation and with many more improvements on the way, we’re not stopping there. An ambitious, energetic, multi award-winning manufacturer with a genuine commitment to sustainability, manufacturing excellence and brilliant customer service…

In 2012, Phillip started the Fill Refill project to make eco-responsible, UK-made products available to all – the first company to offer this with closed-loop supply. Along with his team, has been working on perfecting the range ever since.

“Fill is for everyone who’s interested in a better way to clean. We set out to create the type of straightforward eco products that we wanted to use, in glass bottles, so they won’t get thrown away.”

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Bring your own containers and fill them up or buy our glass bottles to reuse.

We can also provide 5 litre containers if you’re just starting out or if you’ve already recycled everything and don’t have anything to bring.

If you like things to look nice, we sell 500ml screen-printed glass bottles. You may prefer these attractive bottles for products that you have on show or use regularly such as washing up liquid, hand soap, all purpose cleaner and laundry liquid.

The simplest way to Fill? Choose your favourite container for regular use and stick to it. Then, buy a 5 litre refill, enabling you to top up easily at home.

Once your 5 litre container is empty – bring it back and fill it up again/ swap it for a full one. No waste!

If you are a business or if you run a holiday let, you may prefer to buy the 20 litre containers. Once they are empty – just return them to us and we’ll swap your container for a full one.
